Come celebrate the new Gateway to Adventure

Racine – The Racine Zoo is pleased to host a Grand Opening to celebrate the official completion of Gateway to Adventure entrance and Walk-about Creek exhibit construction projects. The event will take place this Saturday, August 2nd, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Children and adults alike will be able to enjoy numerous activities including cookie decorating from O&H Danish Bakery, face painting, animal chats, meet the Milwaukee Brewer’s Racing Sausages and enjoy live entertainment provided by Radio Disney, all while experiencing the newest attractions of the Zoo.

Gateway to Adventure features a newly constructed grand entrance at the corner of Main and Goold Streets, the Benstead Discovery Center which will include numerous amphibians as well as various saltwater creatures originating in the Red Sea, the Zootique, a new gift shop that features fabulous gifts and souvenirs, and Max and Jenny’s Jungle Grill restaurant.

The other major enhancement opening, Walkabout Creek, includes the Zoo’s current wallaroos that will be joined by kangaroos, black swans, emus and egrets. This immersive exhibit allows zoo goers to walk directly through the habitat for a more personal animal experience. Walkabout Creek will be located on the southeast corner of the Zoo next to the new Main entrance on Main Street.

Various activities will take place throughout the Zoo and guests can also take photos with and receive autographs from the Milwaukee Brewer/Klement’s racing sausages. The sausages, including Italian, Chorizo, Polish, Hotdog, and Bratwurst, race at Brewer’s games for enthusiastic Brewer’s fans and have become a popular speciation event over the years. All five sausages will greet and mingle at the Zoo’s entrance.

Zoo admission prices for the Grand Opening events are the regular summer admission prices: Adults- $4.00, Children ages 3-15- $2.00, Children 3 & under- FREE, seniors- $3.00, and Zoo Members- FREE. Event attendees are welcomed and encouraged to enjoy the rest of the exhibits the Zoo has to offer. The Racine Zoo’s hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the last admission of the day taking place at 7:00 p.m.
